“Someone Like You” is a conceptual dance film directed, filmed, and edited by Glyn Gray, featuring tap artist Christopher Lee Rutledge and vocalist Lindsay Hough performing their own live arrangement of Adele and Dan Wilson’s song.
Filmed in Los Angeles, the project explores the relationship between voice, rhythm, movement, and emotion through an intimate live performance. Rather than treating the tap dancing simply as choreography accompanying the music, the film allows Christopher’s movement and percussion to become part of the musical conversation with Lindsay’s vocals.
The visual approach was designed around the performers and the emotional progression of the song, using composition, camera movement, performance coverage, and editing to create a cinematic experience while preserving the immediacy of a live performance.
Produced by Glyn Gray in association with StirStudios and DancePlug, the project reflects Glyn’s approach to filming dance: understanding movement from inside the art form and using the camera and edit not merely to document performance, but to shape how the audience experiences it.
